Recipe:
Dough:
2 3/4 c plus 2 Tbsp. flour
1/4 c sugar
2 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast (1 packet)
1/2 tsp salt
4 Tbls butter
1/3 c whole milk
1/4 c water
2 eggs (at room temperature)
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Filling:
1 c. sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
4 Tbls. butter, melted until browned
In a large mixing bowl, mix 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast and salt. Put aside.
In a small sauce pan, melt the butter and milk. Once the butter is completely melted take off the burner and add the water and vanilla. Let the mixture cool for 5 minutes or if you have a thermometer and want to be super tricky, wait until the mixture cools to about 125 degrees.
Pour the milk mixture into the large bowl with the dry ingredients and mix well. Whisk together the eggs and add to the batter. Keep mixing. Add 3/4 c of flour and mix well. The mixture will be very sticky which means it's perfect.
Place the dough in a medium greased bowl. Cover with wrap and let it sit in a warm place to rise for about 30-45 minutes. Once the dough has doubled its size, knead in 2 Tbls of flour. Cover the dough again for another 5-10 minutes.
While the dough is rising you can start on the filling. Mix together the sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg in a small bowl. Set aside.
Brown the butter in a small saucepan. Should take about 5-8 minutes. Once browned, take off heat and set aside.
Once the dough is ready, roll it out on a floured surface. Brush the butter on the the dough and add the sugar mixture. Make sure everything is covered.
Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into six equal strips.
Stack the strips onto of each other and cut six equal squares.
Place squares side by side in a bread pan and pre-heat the over to 350 degrees. Cover the dough for another 10-15 minutes to rise.
Bake in the over for 30-35 minutes. The outside of the bread will be a dark golden brown. (Side note: I had to put a small pan on the oven shelf underneath the bread pan because the sugar started to boil over.)
The bread is best served when warm. I enjoyed it with some apple cider- a great combination. If you want more of a dessert, feel free to whip up some icing to drizzle on top once you take the bread out of the over.
Enjoy!

As I mentioned above, I found this recipe on Pinterest posted by Mandy's Recipe Box. Just to clear any confusion, by reading Mandy's Recipe Box she mentioned she found this recipe from Joy the Baker. I'm so grateful for the world of blogging & pinterest, where we are able to share ideas and recipes. Sorry to anyone who felt I was stealing recipes. I try my hardest to give credit to where I found the recipe. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings and we can go back to what we love most...eating!! :-) xoxo B**

This post came with perfect timing! John and I are having friends over tonight to kick off Day 1 of Advent, and I advertised that we'd feed everyone dessert, but didn't know what I'd make. This bread looks perfect. I'll add icing so it's more of a dessert. Thanks!
This recipe is great, I'm so glad I stumbled upon it! I made it, loved it, and reposted it on my blog! Thanks again! Happy Holidays!

Thanks Libby! Welcome to the site and thanks so much for sharing awesome blog! We will definitely have to do a recipe swap:-)
This reminds me of a dessert that my mom used to make called Monkey Bread. She would buy canned buttermilk biscuits divide them into 4s. Dip them in melted butter then in cinnamon sugar throw them in a bunt pan and bake til biscuits were done. Delicious.
Whoa...I found you on Pinterest and am making these right now! Yummmmmm. I going to repost to my blog later also!! Thanks so much for sharing!!

Hey you're totally stealing this recipe from joy the baker! At least give her credit for what you're re-posting!
Hi! Sorry- I posted a link to the Pinterest page which I got the recipe but clarified a little more on my blog. I got the directions and the recipe from Mandy's Recipe Box- http://mandysrecipebox.blogspot.com/2011/07/cinnamon-sugar-pull-apart-bread.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+blogspot%2FqSFGy+%28Mandy%27s+Recipe+Box%29&utm_content=Google+Reader.
She may have taken it from Joy the Baker blog and if so I'm sure she mentioned it in her post. Sorry for the confusion and hopefully I gave better credit to whom I saw the recipe from. :-)
Thinking of playing around with this recipe with premade dough from the store. Wondering what it would be like on pizza dough or even crescent dough.
Will be posting my results on

I found you on pinterest! Thanks for the great blog.
@ Angela- Definitely keep us posted on how it goes. I love the idea of simplifying things by using store bought dough! That's what takes the longest in this recipe. I'm sure either way will be divine! :-)
Used my bread maker to prepare the dough for this today. I added the ingredients as listed. It turned out perfect... Too perfect we can'tstop eating it and the house smells amazing!
Thank you for sharing the recipe, regardless of where it came from. There is always a nice way to say anything. 'Nuff said.
I am also interested in hearing how store bought dough turns out.
Thanks everyone! I love hearing your comments on different ways to prepare this. I'm going to try pre-made dough and see how that goes.Great idea!
it was great until the second rise and it rose right over the pan! When it was almost done baking, it started leaking. Otherwise it tastes very good...I think a different size of pan would be more suitable to prevent it from spilling over.
I have seen a variation of this recipe using pre-made dough. I got it from the Pillsbury website and it calls for Pillsbury Grands Homestyle buttermilk biscuits. It was delicious. It is called Grands Monkey Bread.
My mom would make this with frozen white bread she cut up into slices while it was frozen, dip the slice in butter and then dip in the cinnamon/sugar mix and put in a loaf pan. She would let it rise and then bake it. Sooooo
good!
Delicious, huge hit around here! I posted it today and credited you, as I found your recipe through Pinterest. Happy Cooking!!

I love this recipe! I think it's funny how people get defensive over a RECIPE and who got it from who, especially when my grandma makes this EXACT same thing and I can assure you that this Montana lady didn't get it from Joy the Baker! Thank you for posting, and giving credit ;)
I make a similar thing using my Thermomix, I make a hot cross bun dough and spread it with a batch of homemade honey butter! It's also nice doing wholemeal bread dough with choc-hazelnut spread. Sometimes, we do a savoury one - vegemite and grated cheese, sweet chilli, or herb and garlic butter.
One thing I do that I find quicker and easier is:
Once I have cut the dough into strips, I just grab one end of a strip and concertina it back and forth, then flip it on its side and put it in the middle of a round cake tin. I keep going folding each strip into a concertina shape and arrange it in the tin until it's all done.
i love Pinterest cause it leads me to yummy recipes like this one thanks for sharing. :)
As I write this, the dough is rising! Thank you for sharing this with us...
My 91 year old neighbor man is leaving this world and I want something to bring to his family. This recipe will bring comfort, I'm sure of it!
I think my father made something similar for us one year on Christmas morning, and I'm sure he didn't consult Joy the Baker!
Looks delicious & I'm making it tomorrow.. do you know the measurements in rolling it out??
If those are standard 4x4 tiles in the photo, I'd guess 12x14
Thanks for mentioning Mandy's Recipe Box and Joy the Baker. Isn't this bread just divine? I need to go make it again.
This is an old girl scout recipe. We make it all the time for breakfasts at day camp
This looks amazing! I can't wait to try with whole wheat pastry flour.
Sad u had to be so mean and selfish about it. Its all about SHARING!!
Is the flour all purpose or self rising?? Sorry I'm not much of a baker.
Who did Joy The Baker take this recipe from? Don't people realize there are a million different recipes out for one specific recipe. Get real people!! Who took it from who....who cares. I think yours looks best and I will be trying your recipe very soon.
Wow rude...almost everyone has the same recipes on the web.....maybe joy the baker took it from someone else?
I wish everyone would just share the love of food and not worry about where the recipes come from.I'm sure these people don't have a copyright anyway. Just sayin.
does this need to be refrigerated or just sealed on the counter?
need to get pin interest attachment so can save recipes easily
